Message:  Stewardship Sunday

LISTEN to the SERMON MESSAGE HERE

Call to Worship:

Leader: Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!

People: Lift us lift up our hearts to God.

Leader: With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high?

People: He has showed you what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.

Bible Texts: NIV (New International Version)

Old Testament: Ecclesiastes 5: 10-11

10) Whoever loves money never has enough;

whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.

This too is meaningless.

11) As goods increase,

so do those who consume them.

And what benefit are they to the owners

except to feast their eyes on them?

Bible Texts: NIV (New International Version)

New Testament Scripture: 1 Timothy 6: 9-10, 17-19

False Teachers and the Love of Money

9) Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Final Charge to Timothy

17) Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18) Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19) In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

The Stewardship of Our Resources

THE STEWARDSHIP OF OUR RESOURCES

AVOID THE PITFALLS OF MONEY…

1 Timothy 6:9-10 states, “But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For THE LOVE OF MONEY IS A ROOT OF ALL KINDS OF EVIL and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.”

THINKING THAT HAVING MORE WILL MAKE ME…

Ecclesiastes 5:10-11

“The lover of money will not be satisfied with money; nor the lover of wealth, with gain. This also is vanity. When goods increase, those who eat them increase; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes?”

Luke 12:15

“And He said to them, ‘Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.’”

Proverbs 23:5

“When your eyes light upon it, it [money/wealth] is gone…”

That’s the downside, but here’s the upside…

APPLY THE PURPOSES OF MONEY…

1 Timothy 6:17-19

“As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus STORING UP for themselves the treasure of A GOOD FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.”
